Five Basic Rules for Responding to a Personal Ad
- Don’t make any requests you wouldn’t feel comfortable making in person.
- Explain precisely what about her profile or personal ad aroused your interest. If you can’t do that: leave her alone.
- Spell correctly. A word processor with a spelling dictionary probably came with your computer. Or download OpenOffice or use Google Docs.
- Punctuate properly. The ellipsis is not a universal punctuation mark. Capitalize correctly. That you think yourself a lowly ‘submale’ doesn’t mean you should limit yourself to lower-case letters.
- If she says “No” or doesn’t reply at all just move on. Don’t be a pest.

Yes! So many ads and e-mails show no effort at all. If someone isn’t willing to put a little effort into communicating, how much effort would that person put into a relationship, or even a scene?
